Main Stages vs. Off Stages (Bob)
There is a popular set of guidebooks by John Brierley that lays out a way to walk the French route of the Camino in 33 days. The book is so popular that many pilgrims stick to the book’s proposed stages. The main stages are more popular, which has its pros and cons. More Albergues and restaurants, more crowds. It’s usually easier to find a place in the “off” stages.
We’ve done a mix of main stages and off stages. Our favorite albergues have been in the off stages, but we see more of our friends when we do the main stages.
