Day 25: Rabanal to Molinaseca (Bob)

Today was the first day in the mountains. We woke up bright and early and started the hike in the dark.

After walking a little over an hour, we stopped at a small town for breakfast. This one had great coffee as well as a sign showing our progress.

After breakfast, we made our way to the top of the mountain called Cruz de Ferro, which is the high point of the Camino. It’s where peregrinos leave a rock that they bring from home.

The rock can represent a burden, or sins, or the things you want to leave behind. I left a rock that I picked up the day before. For me, the rock represented the burden of my sins that I want to leave behind, especially the sin of not finishing my sentences. “I do hereby set this rock upon this pile!”

After walking along the top of the mountain, we started a long, steep descent. The conditions were exactly like the first stages in the Pyrenees, where Wendy hurt her knees. I was nervous.

She did great. After the long descent, we arrived in a town that looks like it belongs in the Swiss Alps. We crossed a cobblestone bridge to enter the village.

The hostel owner is a super friendly Brazilian who expressed sincerely his desire for us to consider this place our home for the day.

Have I mentioned how much I love Spain?
