Day 17: Frómista to Carrión Delos Condes (Bob)

We woke up before 6:00 AM as usual. No alarm—that’s just how our clocks reset after jet lag. We left in the dark and followed the signs out of town. After a pleasant little walk, we turned around and took this sunrise photo.

After we ate breakfast, we had a choice: take the direct route on a path along the highway, or detour away from the main path and walk along a river. Even though the detour adds distance, we took that route. Our knees (Wendy) and feet (me) are definitely feeling better. That’s not a choice we would have made last week.

The detour was pleasant, with birds singing in the trees near the river on one side and the open rolling hills of farm country on the other. There were lots of fallen trees from the earlier wind storm.

After we joined back with the main trail, things weren’t so pastoral. Walking next to the highway and swatting away gnats for about an hour wasn’t that great, but we made it to the monastery. Here it is on the other side of the bridge.
